Renzy at BluOcean Philippines

Updated: Aug 9, 2023

Renzy Samson is holding down the fort at BluOcean Philippines. With a degree in electrical technology and 10 years of experience in system integration and security services, Renzy joined BluOcean as our first System Engineer in the Philippines. Renzy is instrumental in providing support and security services to BluOcean’s clients in the Philippines. Based in Manila, he is currently overseeing projects for an international school, co-working space and a leading tech company.

We sat down with Renzy to ask him about his experiences, here’s what he had to say.

Landing in the security industry

A friend invited me to apply for a position at the company he was working at. As a recent graduate that time, I wasn’t sure what field to pursue, so I applied to every job opportunity that came my way. Fortunately, I landed on a role that required field work, allowing me to go to different locations to support clients. I discovered that I enjoy field work as I get to meet new people and travel to different sites.

First impressions of BluOcean

Working for an international company like BluOcean is different from my previous experiences at local companies. I still remember when Effie Chen interviewed me; I was surprised to hear that instead of a top-bottom hierarchy, the team operates as a roundtable where everybody supports everyone. This is ideal for me, because it eliminates a toxic work culture and office politics.

Even on days I’m bombarded with requests, I see it as a good problem. I am always confident that the BluOcean team will lend their support and guidance to ease the workload.

BluOcean is all about continuous learning

My favorite thing about BluOcean is the never-ending learning opportunities and support from my global colleagues. We all take time to teach and offer support.

What are you interests outside of work?

I’m extroverted. In my free time, I usually go out with friends, get some drinks and travel when I can.

What is one advice you would give to anyone who is interested in joining BluOcean and/or the security industry?

Don’t be afraid to try new things. Don’t be stagnant. Yes, sometimes it is scary to try new things because you may fail, but in failure there is always something to learn.

Especially in the security industry, new technology is constantly introduced and upgraded from previous years, making it exciting to experience.
